Background
In October 2024, Waterhouse was appointed to deliver a three-year Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) contract at Westhaven School, a specialist educational setting in Weston super Mare.
The school supports pupils with complex needs, including autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional, and mental health (SEND) challenges, and physical disabilities.
Scope of Works
The contract requires delivery of all statutory mechanical and electrical compliance checks, servicing of key plant and equipment, remedial support, and accurate certification, without disrupting the learning and therapeutic environment.
Delivery
Our primary task is to ensure full compliance with all statutory PPM requirements (e.g., LGSRs, emergency lighting, ventilation), while working in a highly sensitive, low-stimulation setting. Specific client expectations included:
Minimising visual and sensory disruption to pupils.
Coordinating engineer access to suit therapy timetables and specialist teaching.
Providing transparent, real-time reporting and documentation for senior leaders and governors.
Offering responsive remedial support in line with site risk ratings.
Deployment:
We deployed a core delivery team led by Phil Ainsworth, Head of Electrical Services. All PPM schedules were created in advance via our CAFM system, JobLogic, with each visit linked to a unique PM reference number and aligned to site-specific asset registers.
We scheduled all intrusive or noisy works outside core school hours (e.g., early morning or weekends) and used soft signage to define work zones subtly.
Waterhouse ensure our engineers are fully trained in SEND-awareness and low-arousal working practices during induction.
Engineers wore low-contrast uniforms and avoided high-visibility clothing unless essential for safety.
We continually maintain open communication through a named point of contact and provided digital access to all job sheets, certificates, and compliance logs in real time via our portal.
