Background
Built in 2013, Wallscourt Farm Academy was originally fitted with fluorescent lighting across classrooms, corridors, breakout areas and administration spaces. With rising energy costs and an ageing lighting system, the Academy sought a modern, efficient LED solution.
After a competitive tender process, Waterhouse was awarded the contract to install the LED lights.
Scope of Works
Working to a fixed programme, our team delivered a comprehensive electrical upgrade including:
● Removal of all existing fluorescent luminaires and installation of new, long-life LED fittings matched to each teaching and circulation environment.
● Upgrade of the emergency lighting system with integrated self-testing technology, reducing ongoing maintenance burden for the site team.
● Full testing, commissioning and certification prior to handover.
Our installation teams followed strict health and safety protocols and maintained controlled access within a live site environment. Although the work was completed outside of term, the campus remained partially occupied, requiring careful sequencing, robust welfare arrangements and close communication with the site manager.
At Waterhouse, we work with a number of schools, colleges, MATs and universities. Our DBS checked engineers have extensive experience in live education settings, including in SEND and other sensitive environments.
Delivery
Waterhouse co-ordinated all subcontractors, managed procurement of specialist LED equipment, and provided phased installation to match the Contract Administrator’s sequencing.
We supplied progress photography, regular programme updates, and all required technical documentation including as-built drawings, product guarantees and O&M manuals. All works were delivered safely, on time and within the agreed contract sum.
Results
The LED upgrade has delivered immediate and measurable benefits for Wallscourt Farm Academy:
● Significant reductions in electricity usage and carbon footprint across the estate.
● Improved lighting quality in teaching and learning spaces, supporting better visual comfort for pupils and staff.
● Lower maintenance requirements, with self-monitoring emergency fittings and long-life LED technology.
